Man in search of his Luck, The

Sound recording, story; The Man in Search of his Luck, a folk tale and moral tale, told by Ben Haggarty in An Evening of Eastern European Tales, at the Springfield Theatre, Springfield Park Tavern, London, 15th March 1990.

Story told by Ben Haggarty. A story about a man who goes on a journey to find God and ask him why he has no luck. On his journey he meets a starving wolf who can't find food, a tree who can reach no water and a beautiful, but bored women. He agrees to take their questions to God along with his own. The man finds God, who tells him that he must look for his luck, and he answers the questions of the the women, the tree and the wolf. The man makes a return journey. He tells the women that she must marry a man, but refuses to marry her himself as he is too busy; he tells the tree that gold is buried under its roots, but refuses to dig it up as he is too busy, and tells the wolf that he should eat the next thing it sees coming down the path. The wolf eats the man.
