A story told by Ben Haggarty about an elderly
man, who guards his wife so jealously that he locks her in a
tower, watched over by his sister. The young women prays for a
young lover and is visited by a man, who appears in the form of a
hawk. Her sister-in-law and husband find out about her secret
liaisons, and create a trap which injures the hawk when he next
flies in through the tower window. Injured, the hawk leaves and
is followed back to his land by the young wife. The young wife
learns that the man is King of his land and that she will bear
his child. Before he dies, he gves the young wife a ring for her
to wear, which will make her husband forget everything, and a
dagger to give their son when he comes of age. The young wife
returns home, gives birth to a son and continues her life with
her husband. One year, when the son is eighteen, the wife, the
husband and the son become lost on a journey and seek refuge in
an abbey, where they find the tomb of the Hawk-King. The wife
reveals the secret of her son's father and removes the ring from
her finger. Learning the story, the boy kills the husband and
avenges his father.
