A story told by Ben Haggarty, about forbidden
love. A young holy man comes to a town and ask for a place where
he may create a hermitage. The Lord of the town, lets him have an
island to make his home on. A local fisherman takes villagers to
visit the man regularly. The daughter of the Lord and the holy
man fall in love. The girl swims the sea to meet her lover at
night, but when their affair is discovered, her brothers trick
her in to swimming in the stormy sea and she drowns. The holy man
finds the drowned body of his lover and he lies down on the beach
and dies of a broken heart. The two bodies are found - that of
the girl, hanging as a skeleton entangled in a rose tree. The
bones of the skeleton rattle and tell the tale of family deceit,
and the villagers force the Lord and his sons to sea where they
drown.
