Sound recording, story; The Sicilian Story, a folk tale and legend from Sicily, told by Ben Haggarty, as part of a performance Medieval Tales, in Medieval Mayhem medieval festival, at the Guild Hall, Sandwich, Kent, 26th August 2006.

A story told by Ben Haggarty, about forbidden love. A young holy man comes to a town and ask for a place where he may create a hermitage. The Lord of the town, lets him have an island to make his home on. A local fisherman takes villagers to visit the man regularly. The daughter of the Lord and the holy man fall in love. The girl swims the sea to meet her lover at night, but when their affair is discovered, her brothers trick her in to swimming in the stormy sea and she drowns. The holy man finds the drowned body of his lover and he lies down on the beach and dies of a broken heart. The two bodies are found - that of the girl, hanging as a skeleton entangled in a rose tree. The bones of the skeleton rattle and tell the tale of family deceit, and the villagers force the Lord and his sons to sea where they drown.
