Peik

Sound recording, story; a version of Si Djeha and the Robbers, a Norwegian trickster tale, lying tale and folk tale told by Abbi Patrix, as part of The Grand Storytelling Festival Celebration, at The First International Storytelling Festival at Battersea Arts Centre, London, 2nd February 1985

Story told by Abbi Patrix. A story of Peik, who tricks people with his stories and his mythical 'bag of trickness'. Peik then sets out to make money from his trickery. He tricks the King out of his horse; then his kingdom; then tricks him into killing his own wife and sister, and finally into killing himself, leaving Peik the throne.

R1121 is a recording of Abbi Patrix telling the same story in 1991, at The Crick Crack Club in London. The same story exists as Si Djeha and the Robbers from the Arab World, told by Hugh Lupton in R928 and R1250, and as an Irish traveller tale told by Mikeen McCarthy in R850
