|

|
|
Sound recording, story; The Iron Man Kavad, a
version of a wonder tale, from Romania, told using a kavad, by
Ben Haggarty in the Red Tent at Festival at the Edge, Stokes
Barn, Much Wenlock, Shropshire, England, 17th July

|
|
Introduction to Ben Haggarty by Alan Sparkes,
followed by a European wonder tale told by Ben Haggarty using a
kavad, made by Ben Haggarty. A kavad is an Indian storytelling
tradition. It is a wooden box with opening doors and drawers,
covered with painted images, which the storyteller uses to
illustrate their story. The Iron Man Kavad was one of the
commissioned pieces for Festival at the Edge 2005, funded by Arts
Council England. R495, is the premier and first public
performance of the Iron Man Kavad by Ben Haggarty. Recordings
R496, R497, R498 provide records of performances 3, 4, and 5,
over the course of the weekend festival. R77 gives a recording of
Ben Haggarty telling the Iron Man without a Kavad, in
1994.
