Earthdom, wonder tale from the Scottish traveller tradition, told

A story introduced and told by Duncan
Williamson. A King and Queen have two sons. The King wishes for a
daughter, but when a hunch-backed third son is born, the father
sends one of his men into the woods with the baby to abandon it.
The baby is taken in and raised by an old hunch-backed man in
Earthdom. When the hunch-backed son is grown up, his adoptive
father gives him the Flying Horse of Earthdom and sends him to
compete in tournaments at the palace. The hunch-backed son beats
everyone, including his two brothers at bowmanship, swordmanship,
and at horse racing on the flying horse. The hunch-backed son
returns home, and having sought advice from a henwife, the King
travels to Earthdom to find him. When the King finds him, he
discovers that he is his son, and begs him to return to the
palace with him. The hunch-backed son refuses.
