Tongue of Stone, A

Sound recording, story; A Tongue of Stone, a performance combining wonder tales and myth, told by Sharon Jacksties, accompanied by Jem Dick, at Somerset Rural Life Museum, Glastonbury 18th November 2006

Story told in two halves by Sharon Jacksties, with musical accompaniment by Jem Dick on replicated stone-age instruments. Sharon Jacksties' description of A Tongue of Stone is as follows - 'A Tongue of Stone was inspired by two stone-age burials of children, one found on a swan's wing and the other with a stone in its mouth the size and shape of its own tongue. Whilst archeaology cannot explain these finds, oral tradition reaches even further into our past, and abounds with stories of swans travelling and stones speaking between this and other worlds. Using replicated ancient instruments to create a live soundtrack on stage, along with the most recent digital musical technology, this performance traces a narrative journey from hunter/gatherer to urban times and between worlds'.
