Frau Trude

Sound recording, story; Frau Trude, a German wonder tale, a version of a story collected by The Brothers Grimm, told by Jana Reile in a performance with Madeleine Grantham, as part of The Invasion of the Story Snatchers, in Milton Keynes Storytelling Festival, in Milton Keynes, on the 17th and 18th November 2000.

Introduction to Jana Reile and Madeleine Grantham, by Allan Davies, followed by an introduction by Madeleine Grantham, and story told by Jana Reile. A story about a little girl who disobeys her parents, and having decided that she wishes to go to visit Frau Trude, she leaves depsite all their warnings. The girl arrives at Frau Trude's house terrified. Frau Trude questions her and the girl tells of seeing a black man (a collier, says Frau Trude), a green man (a hunter, says Frau Trude), a red man (a butcher, says Frau Trude), and that she had seen the devil in the place of Frau Trude when she looked in at the wondow. Frau Trude tells the girl that she has seen her in her true form, and she turns the girl into a peice of wood and burns her in the fire.
