Projects

The LCIS acts as an umbrella organisation for a variety of projects which meet its aims and objectives. Some projects, such as the Crick Crack Club, run continuously in the long term, whilst others operate for fixed terms - weeks, months or years - depending on their nature. Current LCIS projects include:

The Crick Crack Club
In 2004 the long running Crick Crack Club became a project of the LCIS. The Club is dedicated to giving the public access to the highest quality storytelling performances for adults, and also for families and children. Its activities include organising tours, festivals and conferences, training and directing performers, advising on the multiple uses of storytelling and sourcing appropriate storytellers for events ranging from school visits, work in museums and other site specific contexts, to theatre and literature festival programming.

A Centre for International Storytelling
The ultimate vision of the LCIS is to establish a dedicated storytelling venue in which to celebrate traditional tales and their telling. It will serve both the general public, including immediate, national and international communities, and the worlds of the arts and of education.

Archiving the UK Storytelling Revival
The Heritage Lottery Fund are currently funding a two year LCIS project to archive and document live recordings of public storytelling by professional performers. These recordings have been collected over the last 25 years by the Crick Crack Club, by promoters of storytelling and individual storytellers. They chart the revival of the art form as a public performance art in the UK.

This quest for stories is taking place in schools and cultural venues across the UK, involving children of all ages, their families and local communities - listening to, telling, collecting and responding to stories.
